Who needs load securing training?

Several people share responsibility for securing loads: the driver, the loader and the vehicle keeper. So anyone who loads, secures or plans routes should be trained. Typical participants:

  • Truck and van drivers
  • Warehouse staff and loaders at the dock
  • Dispatchers and shipping managers
  • Tradespeople who carry material in their own van
  • Fleet managers

What the training covers

Load securing is physics. Once you understand the forces acting when braking and cornering, you choose the right method by yourself.

Theory

  • Inertial forces when braking, accelerating and cornering
  • Friction and anti-slip material
  • Blocking, top-over lashing and direct lashing
  • Lashing straps, chains and nets: markings (LC, STF) and discard criteria
  • Load distribution plan and permissible axle loads
  • Responsibility, roadside checks and fines

Practice

  • Stowing loads with form fit
  • Working out how many straps are needed
  • Using edge protectors and aids correctly
  • Spotting typical mistakes on real loads

Completion and proof

The day ends with a knowledge check on theory and practice. Every participant gets the VDI 2700 load securing record in the app, and you get the certificate as a PDF in the portal.

Refreshers

The law sets no fixed validity period for load securing training. Anyone who loads and secures regularly should be kept up to date as part of the annual instruction, though. In the portal you see when each employee was last trained.

FAQ · Load securing

Good to know.

Is the training mandatory?

A specific "licence" is not required by law. But you must instruct your staff for their tasks (§ 12 ArbSchG), and drivers and loaders are liable for securing errors. The training lets you show that your team knows what it is doing.

Does it count as periodic training for professional drivers?

No. Periodic training under the German Professional Drivers’ Qualification Act is a separate duty with its own requirements. Our training complements it with practice on your loads.

What are the consequences of a poorly secured load?

Depending on the risk, a fine and penalty points for the driver; keepers and loaders can be held responsible too. In serious cases, liability for damage comes on top.

Can van drivers take part?

Yes. Vans up to 3.5 t in particular are often not secured at all. We show how to use lashing points, bulkhead and anti-slip mats correctly.

Do we need our own lashing equipment?

For in-house training, yes, because that is exactly what your team should use correctly. We also check whether it is still in good condition.
